Typical Session
All sesison are taken at an in-home studio. Newborns have the option of an at-home session for a fee, feel free to email for more details. Sessions can last anywhere from 1-3 hours, please come prepared with feedings.
After the session
Approximately 2-5 days after your session a password protected online gallery will be available to view and place your print order. Once print payment is made, please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery of prints. Shipping is always free. All major credit and debit cards are accepted and checks are not accepted. Orders will not be placed until payment is received in full. All images will remain on file should you ever desire additional reprints at a later date
My style
The focus in my images are the eyes... crisp, clear, and bright. Along with this, my goal is to catch natural expressions of your child. There is no pre-set number of poses or photos that will be taken. I will, however, will take a variety of poses, some simple, some artistic. All photos are taken with a digital camera and all images are shot in color, then presented in a mix of color and black and white. Like no one person is the same, no one photo session is the same, however I do stick to a distinct style of simplicity and elegance. Sets are basic and prop usage is limited simply to eliminate distractions in your photos.
About the Photographer
My favorite part about being a photographer, is capturing new life and watching it grow into a little person who loves to eat cake! I am a mother by day and photographer by evening and weekend. My son is my inspiration and my little subject. I have pictures of him all over the house from when he was first born till now, I know the importance of capturing memories.
I started my photography studio 2007. I recently relocated from Monticello, IA to Indianola, IA. I am not self-taught, I went to school for portrait photography, where I was taught the "ins and outs" of cameras, posing, lighting, and retouching. I am self-inspired, my creativity drives me and I am constantly coming up with new ideas, which makes each photo session unique and fun! Clients Questions Answered
Will our portraits turn out better if the newborn session is held in your studio?
Not necessarily. The studio uses studio lighting, so it's in an controlled environment. But I schooled in natural lighting and I pride myself in "finding the light" no matter where the session is held. In home sessions require large windows or glass doors which have little outside obstruction (trees or patio covers). Upper levels are even better!
How far in advance should I book my session?
As soon as you decide you want my services, book your session! I am typically booked 2 months in advance, usually even further for the holiday months.
Why a $200 minimum order?
There is a minimum order but think of it more as a subtotal minimum. For example: If you have $200 in your cart at check and you type in your 10% off code, your order total will be $180. If you have purchased the baby plan and you have $200 in your cart at check out and you type in your 25% off code, your order total will be $150.
Your minimum order includes the photographers time and talent of custom-styled photography as well as the editing of each image to prepare the online gallery. A private online gallery will display all edited images, each personally and creatively edited to Missie’s style. Free shipping and handling. There are no sitting fees, all you pay for are you portraits!
Why no sitting fees?
I believe your money should be invested in your portraits, and because I photograph newborn, babies and children, that means a session could last 20 minutes or 200 minutes...you never know! There are fees for "add-ons" (see rates page) but for a basic in studio session or outdoor session...absolutely no sitting fees!
When and how will I receive my portraits after ordering?
After the order is placed, it comes directly to me, then I order it again through my professional photo lab. I receive the order 1-2 days later, when I double check the order and carefully package it and send it to your front door, free of charge. You should receive your order full order (some products take longer) within 2 weeks!
