The moments you have with your newborn are numbered...before you know it, your baby is rolling over, crawling and then walking! And you find yourself saying "where did the time go!" A newborn session allows you to relive those moments you miss so much later in life... their tiny fingers and toes, that gental sigh of satisfaction after a feeding, their tiny body curled up in your arms....so precious!
Newborns are my favorite subject. They are so tiny and peaceful, allowing me to pose them in the most natural and beautiful positions. The goal of a newborn session is to replicate the peacefulness and flexibility your baby still posseses from the womb. That is why it is important to book your newborn session before baby is born... I know you can't predict the birth day, but we can reserve a day (normally the weekend after your due date) to give us an idea of when to plan for the session. I am extremely flexible when scheduling newborns and I keep weekday evenings open exclusively to newborn sessions. Remember it is never too early to book a newborn session.
If you are given an induction or c-section date, the actual session date can be booked in advance. Regardless of a planned birth day or a surprise birth day, I will mark your due date and expect a call from you as soon as baby arrives!
It is recommended to get newborn pictures taken within the first 5 days of birth. "Fresh" newborns (3-5 days old) are best because they are less likely to be disturbed while sleeping, they are more "pliable" and less likely to have newborn acne and colic which usually flares up around 10 days of age.
Older newborns tend to sleep less, potty more and do not curl up as easily.
I know that leaving the house with a newborn and a tired mom is rough, but my in-home studio is a warm, quite relaxing environment, complete with a nursing room for mom and a couch for dad. Most parents kick back and just watch their little one in the spot light.
Each newborn session is different. It’s not uncommon for the session to last three hours, allowing plenty of time for feedings and comforting.
